This is the blog for Gavin and Carrie Jones and family. We live in Papua New Guinea and are working to see lives transformed by the living Word of God through Bible translation. Gavin is a helicopter pilot. Carrie, who has her degree in Public Health, works in the lab at our busy rural clinic. Our son, Isaac, was born in 2004 and our quintuplets, Will, David, Marcie, Seth, and Grace, were born in 2012.

Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. The you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all you heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight. -Proverbs 3:3-6

Urgent need for Seth, too

The NICU staff is having to turn up his oscillator ventilator settings to keep his lungs inflated and get the carbon dioxide out of his system, and his oxygen requirement is all the way up to 85%. Right now they are just keeping him sedated, watching for infection, and considering all the possibilities of what might be going on. He was agitated earlier tonight, "twitchy and tight." We were there late this afternoon, praying over him, and it was sweet to have him rest peacefully under our hands. We pray he rests peacefully under God's mighty hand, and that we will too as we continue to love him and lift him up to the Throne of Grace, where we find help in our time of need.

He's such a perfect, tiny, bundle of blond perfection. He looked and looked at us today before getting too sleepy to look anymore.

Thanks for praying for our little boys. David is doing well so far, but definitely needing lots of prayer as the doctor thinks it is necrotizing enterocolitis he's fighting. The NICU is SUCH a roller-coaster: just this afternoon at 2:00 I was celebrating his achievement of the 3 lb weight mark! Now he's off his feeds for 7-10 days, but I thank God that he gained some weight beforehand.

Gracie remains stable as she awaits her PDA surgery on Tuesday. Marcie is still skinny and needs to gain more weight, and Will needs to remember to breathe! Not optional, big boy. :) Each is so fragile, the Lord of Life is our only hope! But then, that's ALWAYS true, period, for all eternity.

To Him be the glory as we wait in His grip,
Carrie for Gavin too

  2. I figured there was some reason I was up at 2 am - praying for your precious family, Carrie. Praying God's peace and comfort to permeate the NICU and your home tonight.

  4. "Lord Jesus Christ, Good Shepherd of the sheep, you gather the lambs in your arms and carry them in your bosom: We commend to your loving care these children. Relieve their breathing issues, help them to gain weight and become strong. Guard them from all danger, restore to them your gifts of good health and strength, and raise them up to a life of service to you. Hear us, we pray, for your dear Name's sake. Amen."

Each day I pray for your children, including Mr. Isaac and you both. Know that there are SO many people praying for you. Stay strong for those babies....remember that God is your strength!

  5. Gavin & Carrie,

As I was watching Dr. David Jeremiah on TV this morning, I was reminded of a verse. There have been many days when the Lord has brought you and your precious family to mind, but I've struggled to know just how to pray, feeling so overwhelmed on your behalf. I find comfort knowing that He will meet your every need in far greater ways than I can ever begin to ask or imagine.

Eph 3:20 & 21 - "Now unto Him that is ABLE to do EXCEEDINGLY ABUNDANTLY ABOVE ALL that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, unto Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

  6. I know the NICU is such a roller coaster ride for the entire family. We pray for each of you every day, several times a day, because we know in prayer you find srength and healing, comfort and peace. Thank you for sharing the picture of Seth. I can tell he has grown from his earlier pictures and hopefully his lungs will catch up soon. We pray especially for him. We also pray for Grace's surgery to go well, Will to remember to breathe, Marcie to get fat, and David's NEC to clear up quickly, Isaac to continue to enjoy school, and for the parents of these six beautiful children to have strength and comfort. Hang in there, they will grow and come home and thrive.

  9. I remember the account of a little boy who came thru a similliar experience. WHile still little, but now healthy, he related that during those difficult days , he remembered Jesus' voice and having Jesus with him. Perhaps your children will be able to relate such episodes when they are eventually big and strong.
