This is the blog for Gavin and Carrie Jones and family. We live in Papua New Guinea and are working to see lives transformed by the living Word of God through Bible translation. Gavin is a helicopter pilot. Carrie, who has her degree in Public Health, works in the lab at our busy rural clinic. Our son, Isaac, was born in 2004 and our quintuplets, Will, David, Marcie, Seth, and Grace, were born in 2012.

Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. The you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all you heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight. -Proverbs 3:3-6

Eye exams; David

Hi all,

I'll try to make this straight-forward and brief:

The eye exams on all three "older" babies (Will, David and Marcie) show simple immaturity of the retina, which is what we'd expect given their age. No evidence of disease, praise God! We pray their little eyes develop perfectly; also Seth's and Grace's. Follow-up eye exams in 2 weeks or so.

Grace: Doing great, still conked out! Lots fewer low heart rate episodes since having her surgery, which means it has already made a difference, praise God. Weighs 2 lb 8.7 oz., hasn't had tummy feeds in a few days, just IV feeds.

Marcie: Doing great, weighs 2 lb 15 oz!

Seth: At high-30s to low 40s oxygen percentage need, carbon dioxide at a good level, very well-expanded lungs, weaning from his medications. Please pray he improves steadily as he grows, even as his meds are weaned. He weighs 2 lb 15 oz, just like his sister.

Will: Doing great at 4 lb 4.5 oz (WOW), but looking "puffy," so there's probably some water weight on him. He'll get a diuretic to help with that. He's receiving a blood transfusion - the last hold-out of the five babies! The other four have needed theirs prior to this. :) It's something all early preemies need and makes our babies perky and pink, so we like blood transfusions!

David: Having a hard day and night; please pray for him. In the past 24 hours four PICC line attempts have been made on him, he's had his eye exam, he's had two IVs started, and he still has the necrotizing enterocolitis and an empty tummy, so he's just not himself at all. He completely wiped out and is having lots of heart rate drops as a result. They are moving him to a type of CPAP that gives reminder breaths to help him through the night. He weighs 3 lb 8 oz.

Isaac is doing well at school and home and we pray it continues. The cards and gifts are wonderful - thanks!!! He's a happy boy.

Thanks most of all for praying for all 6 kids and for us! It's very obvious.

Gratefully In His Grip,
Carrie

  1. Thanks for the update Carrie! We are so thankful for the way in which God continues to hold each one of your children in His hand. We continue to pray for you all daily, the girls too in their own prayers. They always ask for an update each day and are very excited to hear the progress of the babies. We think of Isaac too and hope to pop something in the mail for him soon. Love to you all and God's richest blessings and strength to your family. Love Claire xxx

  2. Thank you, God, for the continued progress, Grace's successful surgery and the good eye exams. And praying that David is able to overcome all the painful intrusions into his little body and will rebound strongly once he is able to eat again. Bless them, please, Lord, and keep them all in your care. NKL

  3. This all sounds great. I anxiously await your updates every day and now feel like these are MY grandbabies! I also think often of Issac...this has to be awfully hard on him plus a new school. I also pray for the two of you that you get some rest and mental comfort from time to time. You will need it when these babes start coming home.
