This is the blog for Gavin and Carrie Jones and family. We live in Papua New Guinea and are working to see lives transformed by the living Word of God through Bible translation. Gavin is a helicopter pilot. Carrie, who has her degree in Public Health, works in the lab at our busy rural clinic. Our son, Isaac, was born in 2004 and our quintuplets, Will, David, Marcie, Seth, and Grace, were born in 2012.

Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. The you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all you heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight. -Proverbs 3:3-6

Our ministry videos

Here are some videos that will give you an idea what our lives and ministries are like in Papua New Guinea.  The first is from after our second term in PNG, before quintuplets (BQ) and the second is from our last term 2014-2018.

  1. Wow! What an awesome video.... I just followed through the links from the news about the quins and now just totally moved by it all. My friend was out in PNG a couple of years ago with Wycliffe so very interested to see this video. I'm a neonatal nurse working in Yorshire, England and got the news from a google 'neonatal' alert. Praise God for your lovely family and my heart goes out to you as you struggle with these times ahead. Just so heartening to know that God is in control of all of this and will never let you go... May God grant you 'quality sleep' during these times of low quantity sleep!

  3. This is a beautiful video. Thank you for all you are doing to bring God's Word to PNG. I just recently met a young lady who is raising support to serve in PNG. I said a prayer for you and your family today.

  4. If you ever have any problems with the helicopter, maybe you can set up a prayer page for that too!

  5. What a beautiful thing you all are doing over there. It looks so fulfilling, and it makes me wish I could be there as well to lend a hand in any way I can. Congrats on all five beautiful babies!! You truly have your hands full now ...:)

  6. Your video made me cry (just God touching my heart!) Breathtakingly beautiful, scenic country that God called you to! reminds me a little of the movie "The End of the Spear."
How accurate Gavin's piloting must be, to land on such a tiny helipad!
I'm another one who was led here from the blog about the quints. Many blessings on you & your 5 newest little additions!

  9. Wow. How inspiring. You have inspired me to be a better person, to make tomorrow count with my children and God's world. All just by reading that 5 babies had been born, then by going to your blog and seeing your smiling family, and finally by this beautiful video. Just beautiful. I'm truly in awe of the beauty of not only the land in the video, but the people. Enjoy your beautiful family!

  10. Hi, I was just curious, it looks as if you only deliver NT. Do they get the OT as well? is that already translated? Thanks

    1. Portions of the OT are also translated, and after the NT is translated some translators stay on to do the OT too. :) Good question!

    1. Hmmmm, there are a lot of really hard, yucky things on the ground. There's a reason all the people of the world need the Savior of the Gospel! But yes, beauty-wise, it's nearly Heavenly! There are things in the jungles that are very forbidding, too, though, so even that "taste of Heaven" is tainted by the Fall. We get to feast our eyes on stunning beauty every day, however! :)

  15. Great great video. Thank you so much for it. My daughter, Leah, is at Ukarumpa teaching high school math. I actually got to see where she shops!!! Thank you again. Amazing. God bless your whole family. Praying for Seth.

  16. Powerful!! And excellent. I have seen many a video of Wycliffe work in PNG over the years, and I have even been there in person but this is the best presentation ever. Thank you so much. I came to Ukarumpa in 1999 with a team of Wycliffe Associates to substitute in the school for teachers who were going to a teacher's conference in Korea. It was amazing, unforgettable experience. Bible translation is always in my prayers. I will pray for your family now.

  17. God bless you and all your family. While you are doing God's work on earth, your treasures are being stored in Heaven! How refreshing to read about real Christians in today's Godless society in the US.

  18. Interesting that what you call your community is all white people.

    1. Yeah, I realized that too after the video was made! - although you'll see the final picture in that segment is two of our best PNG friends with Isaac as a little boy. We DO live and work alongside wonderful PNG people. Our center there is very mixed. The pictures include some of our weekly Bible studies. Papua New Guineans and expats would have a challenging time doing a couples' Bible study together, our cultures are so different (NOT bad, NOT either one superior or inferior, just DIFFERENT! Men and women don't tend to mix as much in their culture, for one thing.), and the language barrier makes it difficult for the Beth Moore ladies' Bible studies during the day to include Papua New Guineans, Koreans, or any non-English-speaking women on Center, for example. There are Bible studies specific to the various spoken languages. I love and miss my PNG brothers and sisters in Christ. Some of the most amazing people I know are kind enough to allow me and the Health Board to work with them in the villages doing community health outreach. So those villages and people, too, are our community. :) Sorry we didn't include them in that specific "community" part of the video; we planned to use those pictures for the other segment about our work.

  19. I saw your GMA clip and as soon as I read that you were with Wycliffe I connected to your blog! It was sooo exciting to see the translators and their families. I know Steve and Debbie!! Steve is from my home church. Praise God for His global mission to reach all people with His Word and Gospel!! Isaiah 55:8-11 God bless you!! He will do great things through you!

  20. Thank you all for your positive feedback and encouragement! We have been SO BLESSED to get to work in PNG! We can hardly wait to get back there. I wanted to say that the first 6 times I saw this video, as Gavin was making it, I cried!! I've cried several times since when showing it to others, too. So I still believe passionately in the work the Lord is doing in that country. There is a place for just about anyone on the mission field, through any number of organizations. We work alongside several; Gavin loves having buddies in Aviation all over the country. :)

  24. Funny, I have been following your blog since the birth of the Quints and never watched this video until this afternoon and I'll have to add my name to the list of those that wept at it's viewing!!. It was breathtakingly beautiful, humble, simple and so very, very touching. The work He sent you to do on earth for Him is so "basic" but it's everything....to be able to work with people and bring the love of our Lord and Savior to those that have never heard His name and don't realize the love in His heart must be some of the most rewarding work on earth. Bless you in all you do....and now that your finally "home" with the Quints and readjusting to your lives I will pray for you daily that everyone gets settled quickly and you are able to move back into your work with joy, promise and love. May He continue to richly bless you all.....
