The latest on Seth

We're still in a holding pattern, pending the swallow test which will be done tomorrow (rather than yesterday as planned) to check and be sure he's not aspirating fluid into his lungs when eating; also pending the results of a test for rhinovirus (a.k.a. the common cold) that's been positive the past few times they've tested him. It will be 2-4 weeks AFTER his rhinovirus test comes back negative before they can talk about the surgery for the g-tube, even if it's laparoscopic. My guess is they want to ensure his airways and respiratory system are not compromised by any type of infection before they operate.

Meanwhile, today was not so good for eating from the bottle. He only took a little bit a couple of times, nothing the other times, and had several spit-up/vomit episodes. :( I know God's plans and timing are perfect, and it's a good thing I can be assured of that from Scripture and by His Spirit, because this mommy is really struggling with not being able to have her baby with her! I cannot even kiss him or touch him or smile at him since I am required to wear a mask and gloves and gown whenever visiting, due to both his contagiousness and anything I might be bringing from home. Hopefully my voice still means something to him. He just loves having people around, so that's good!

He has some developmental delays secondary to hospitalization; another reason I am eager to get him home! Thank you for your continued prayers, and please do pray he would thrive and develop as he should even in the hospital under such aggravating restrictive conditions. I'm so grateful for the occupational, speech and physical therapists, as well as the child life department and the wonderful nurses who love him in our absence!

Grateful for you all, too,
Carrie

  1. I know it's been a long time since I posted last. I still check daily to see if there are any updates and specific prayer request. I know how frustrating bottling can go. Especially when that's all that is keeping you in the NICU. My little preemie took awhile to figure it out. Sometimes she would do great, and we would all think oh good she's turning the corner and it won't be long and she'll be home. Then she'd so back to only taking a few mils. I know it has been a long road for you. Keep hanging in there.

  4. Lord - Seth needs Your healing touch; please bless this little guy with the ability to breathe and eat and get his feeds where they need to be. His family has an empty spot that only Seth can fill, and they want him home so badly. We ask these things knowing You hear, and praying that Your Will is that Seth improve and that he will be home soon. Thank You for all the blessings You have showered on the Jones family, and thank You for all the wonderful folks who are helping in so many ways. All honor and glory to you, Lord. Amen. NKL

PS - You will be so amazed at how fast Seth catches up once he gets home. There will be no way that he will be left behind by the others. Hoping and praying he gets home soon.

    1. Thanks so much! Do you know from experience? I forget if I've heard from you before re: your personal preemie story, if there is one. Thanks for the wonderful prayers over all these months!
