This is the blog for Gavin and Carrie Jones and family. We live in Papua New Guinea and are working to see lives transformed by the living Word of God through Bible translation. Gavin is a helicopter pilot. Carrie, who has her degree in Public Health, works in the lab at our busy rural clinic. Our son, Isaac, was born in 2004 and our quintuplets, Will, David, Marcie, Seth, and Grace, were born in 2012.

Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. The you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all you heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight. -Proverbs 3:3-6

Decision time re: Seth

They are doing an upper gastrointestinal tract panel of tests at 1:45 partly/mostly as baseline assessment for laparoscopic placement of a short tube through the skin into his stomach. The laparoscopic placement will allow him to be sedated rather than put under general anesthesia and re-intubated. They are also ruling out any physical abnormalities that might be the cause of reflux, although he hasn't had much visible struggle with that. The radioactive solution they will put through his naso-gastro tube will show up on the screen so they can make sure the food is going where it should and not backing up. Will update as soon as we know anything! He hasn't been able to improve on his bottle feeding, so they just want him home. As part of that, they are discontinuing some of his meds so they know which ones are still truly necessary for home dosage. The fewer the better and easier for us! The surgically-placed stomach tube will also make life easier on all of us as Seth gradually learns to eat and grows new lung tissue and strength so he can suck AND breathe without wearing out. So we'll see what the prognosis is based on this afternoon's tests.

Thank you for praying and caring!
Carrie

  1. Father, please guide and direct those doing this procedure on Seth. May they find that all is well, and please help all concerned to make the right decisions in Seth's care. Keep him safe and hold him close and enable him to can strength for feeding and breathing. Thank You for all Your blessings concerning Seth and give Carrie and Gavin peace through the process of bringing Seth home. Amen. NKL
