This is the blog for Gavin and Carrie Jones and family. We live in Papua New Guinea and are working to see lives transformed by the living Word of God through Bible translation. Gavin is a helicopter pilot. Carrie, who has her degree in Public Health, works in the lab at our busy rural clinic. Our son, Isaac, was born in 2004 and our quintuplets, Will, David, Marcie, Seth, and Grace, were born in 2012.

Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. The you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all you heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight. -Proverbs 3:3-6

Seth's condition

Carrie was able to spend about 4 hours with Seth today and a good bit of time with the others as well.  While Marcie was eating like a champ yesterday, she wasn't doing so hot today.  It's been quite a waiting game to see when the next one will come home-- David's been here for two weeks now and is doing wonderfully.

Seth is continuing to deteriorate-- he's needing increased support almost daily on the breathing rate and pressure.  Knowing  how well babies do when at home and out of the hospital environment, we are asking the doctors about the possibility of Seth getting a tracheostomy that might allow him to come home soon with the hope that continuous exposure to us and family (which he loves, judging by his high oxygen saturations) will allow him to heal.  Please pray with us and for the doctors about what is the wisest direction to move for our little Seth.

We'll post some more pictures tomorrow.  Enjoy an extra hour of sleep!  I always miss the extra sunlight in the evening, though.

Gavin

  5. I remember it took our preemie forever to figure out eating. That's what kept us there past my due date. I know how frustrating it can be when you know that's all that's holding you up from bringing home Marcie. Part of the frustration is knowing that there is absolutely nothing you can do, but be patient and wait. Keep hanging in there. Before you know it they'll all be home and the NICU will be a thing of the past. :) Keep leaning on Jesus and He'll continue to give you the strength for each day.

  6. Merciful Lord, we thank You for each day of these young lives and pray that You will give them many, many years so that they can share their journey of miracles with the world. Please help little Seth to breathe on his own and give those caring for him and his siblings the wisdom to make the best decisions for their continued well-being. And, please be with Will, Marcie and Gracie that they, too, might make the improvements needed so that they can go home and feel the constant love of family. We pray that Gavin and Carrie can find peace in the chaos and be ever mindful of Your love for them. You are the Creator and Giver of life, Lord, and we praise You and thank You for all of these blessings and for Your continued mercy and grace. Amen. NKL

  7. thank you so much for the update. As always, er are praying for all the babies, especially sweet little Seth. I will especially pray for guidance and wisdom for you both and the medical team in making decisions for Seth. It seems that every time he takes a giant leap forward he takes a few steps back and this is normal for life in the NICU. It is frustrating and difficult to bear. Like with Marcie, these tiny little people typically take three steps forward and two back, but eventually they will all come home and the NICU will be only a memory. I think it gets even harder when they reach the regular size of a newborn and looks o healthy and you just wantt o bring them home and love them. God Bless you all.

  8. Ditto with what has been said. I know that with all the prayers, you will know the right leading for either bringing Seth home or waiting. I know from past experience how tired I have been to do hospital trips and you have 2 hospitals every daY. Relax when you go to and from hospitals and when you can at home.

God loves all of you so much and he is walking with you through this. Judith

  10. I heard a new song this morning and had to share some of the lyrics that spoke to me. ~Prayers from Nebraska

    "Already There" by Casting Crowns
    From where I'm standing
Lord it's so hard for me to see
    Where this is going
    And where You're leading me
    I wish I knew how
All my fears and all my questions
    Are gonna play out
    In a world I can't control
    Oh, oh

When I'm lost in the mystery
To You my future is a memory
    Cause You're already there
    You're already there
Standing at the end of my life
    Waiting on the other side
    And You're already there
    You're already there

    From where You're standing
Lord, You see a grand design
    That You imagined
When You breathed me into life
    And all the chaos
    Comes together in Your hands
    Like a masterpiece
    Of Your picture perfect plan
