This is the blog for Gavin and Carrie Jones and family. We live in Papua New Guinea and are working to see lives transformed by the living Word of God through Bible translation. Gavin is a helicopter pilot. Carrie, who has her degree in Public Health, works in the lab at our busy rural clinic. Our son, Isaac, was born in 2004 and our quintuplets, Will, David, Marcie, Seth, and Grace, were born in 2012.

Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. The you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all you heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight. -Proverbs 3:3-6

Seth back on CPAP

Carrie texted me from the hospital where she's staying tonight that Seth has been moved back to CPAP, which is a step in the right direction.  When she left the hospital to go back to be with the others, she said he was very happy and on lower oxygen settings.  We praise the Lord for this step closer to health, but know it can continue to ebb and flow.

David continues to do well, but seems to be constantly struggling with constipation that tends to bother him in the evenings especially.  We pray that we can figure how best to help him with that.

As with Carrie, I am definitely getting a reality check about what it will mean to have several kids at home.  With David's fussiness tonight and trying to figure out to help him, it was a bit scary to picture four additional babies with their own unique "issues" and personalities.  God alone will be able to give us the strength and patience we need.

Blessings,

Gavin

  1. God will give you both the stamina, love, patience and all other qualities you need to get through it. Know nothing is "perfect", the house can get clean later, a sandwich is as good as a 4 course meal when you have babies to tend to....and "rest" is at a premium! "....ask and you shall receive"...

    Psalm 28:7
    7 The Lord is my strength and my shield;
my heart trusts in him, and he helps me.
    My heart leaps for joy,
and with my song I praise him.

Prayers continue, good news about Seth tonight...he's a miracle....

  3. I always say that our children are made perfectly for us. For whatever reason God intends us to be the parent of that unique, special and amazing child, and all that they come with. So obviously God intended for you to the parents of six, to be the parents of five premmies and to be the parents of Isaac, Will, David, Seth, Marcie and Gracie.

  5. Thank you Lord for all Your blessings. Please keep these precious ones in the palm of Your hand and bring them all to full health and past their present struggles so that they each may be home soon. Thank you and bless those standing in the gap and being Your hands and feet here on earth as they help the Jones adjust to their new reality. You are awesome and gracious, Lord, all praise and glory to You. Amen. NKL

  6. PRUNE JUICE is the very best thing for baby constipation. It works like a champ, and they love it too.

  7. A teaspoon of corn syrup in each bottle really helps with constipation. My pediatrician told me that and it works great!

  8. Babies used to be given karo corn syrup in the bottle as the person above wrote. Also, regarding Will not eating enough--most babies know how much they need. The problem with Will might be that he stays there in the hospital where he is always in a crib. He needs to be home, around people and other things to stimulate him (to make him "work" so that he will be hungry). It is sort of like a "lazy" person who lays around all of the time and doesn't work, they don't get hungry. Perhaps a different formula would be best for him. Not everyone needs the same formula or the same amount no matter how much they weigh.

  9. My son had issues with constipation, both in the NICU and beyond. If he had gone 2-3 days without a poop, I would try inserting a rectal thermometer coated in vaseline. If that did not work, the tip (maybe 20%) of a fleet children's suppository worked well. This was the NICU's protocol as well. He eventually got better at pooping with no help. :)
