How amazing, how miraculous to report that Lord willing today was Seth's last pulmonology check-up! His lungs sounded really good, his oxygen saturations were good, and he was all over the office like a healthy, normal boy. He kept climbing up into the doctor's lap or my lap, barking like a dog at the dog pictures on one tongue depressor, saying "ball!" over and over again to the ball pictures on the other tongue depressor, and finding little hidey-holes to sit down with both tongue depressors and just look at them with joy. He is SUCH a cute little boy! The doctor asked if we could just let him have him. He said he needs a little boy. :)
The doc also said again that it's just amazing that none of our kids have any lasting problems, and that only Seth needs any kind of medication (his one antacid and his inhalers as needed). He said, "He's really come a long way, hasn't he? I really think he's going to be okay." When I asked him to clarify what "okay" meant, he said it meant Seth likely won't have any longterm issues at all, including asthma. That is certainly our prayer, especially living at 5000 feet during the grass burning time of year when the air can get very smokey and dusty. We appreciate those of you who have been praying for Seth, and we would love it if you would keep humbly asking God for complete lung health on Seth's behalf.
One other big prayer request, the one concern the doctor expressed, was that Seth is still not gaining weight like he should. He's gained a pound since our last visit, but that's slower than he should be gaining. His height curve is great, as usual, but his weight curve has leveled out too much when it really should be going up more. Please pray for wisdom on how and what to feed him. He eats a LOT and is very happy and eager to eat, so it's more a matter of what we can do to pack in the fat and calories along with the nutrients. We need to be careful not to give him empty-calorie snacks because he needs to eat nutritious fattening meals. He doesn't like PediaSure or Boost or even Carnation Instant Breakfast, so that's a bummer.
Okay, gotta head to bed. Love and gratitude!!

Not a great picture of Seth, but Gracie is a cutie and Gavin is the handsomest man alive! |
Our 26 week preemie struggles to gain too! We have found good luck in bacon, trader joes Greek full fat (!!) honey yogurt and adding coconut oil to things
ReplyDeleteI second martha's comments. My youngest struggles not to lose and we really need him to gain so we've been adding coconut oil to lots of his foods and cooking with it in place of other fats. Full fat dairy products are also great. Also, not necessarily for calories/fat but we add chia seeds to lots of our food to help with nutrients. He eats 5 small meals a day and healthy snacks between. He loves nut butters too.
ReplyDeleteIce cream or milkshakes....that is what my child's dr recommended when he refused to take pedisure and carnation instant breakfast any more.
ReplyDeleteHave to share with you as I know you will keep this family in prayers. A local family 10 years ago over a period of several days gave birth to sextuplets. They have 4 boys and 2 girls. Two of the boys are quite disabled with cerebral palsy. They were also blessed with another daughter 3 years later. On Weds. night, after putting a tramp together for the kids and playing with them in the yard, the Dad died at age 39 of a heart attack. His own father died at age 40 of the same. He was a very godly man, a great parent and husband. The community, as well as the family, is reeling. Prayer for this family especially the Mom, Amy, as she has a very difficult road ahead.
ReplyDeleteYour comment about Gavin warmed my heart. What a sweet family you are! Wish there were more of your type in this world. I feel like I know you personally, but I've never met you. I could name each of your kids if I saw them. Maybe someday...if not here, I will be sure to greet you in heaven!!! I'm the one who knew Ypie. We were in contact after finding each other through you.
ReplyDeleteAvocados! Good heart healthy fat! Make fruit smoothies using them mixed with bananas, strawberries and either full fat yogurt or ice cream. You could even try using pediasure or whatever as the flavor gets masked by the other ingredients. Freeze the mixture into popscicle molds for warmer days.
ReplyDeleteWow and praise, praise God for this wonderful news! I cannot begin to express my delight over hearing of Seths Dr.'s visit! Our Father is faithful, our Father is almighty and our Father IS the great and glorious Physician! So happy, hit my knees thanking and praising God for this. "Our" Seth is well, happy, healthy and on his way to a life of happiness and health! Thank you so much for posting the great news!
ReplyDeleteWonderful! Thank you, Lord, for Seth's health and progress! He is such a sweetie. I will be delighted to pray for some fat on his precious little self. ;-)
ReplyDeleteGavin is handsomest, following Calvin. ;-)
ReplyDeleteOkay, fine. Calvin is very handsome; I'll allow YOU to think he's even handsomer than Gavin. ;)
