This is the blog for Gavin and Carrie Jones and family. We live in Papua New Guinea and are working to see lives transformed by the living Word of God through Bible translation. Gavin is a helicopter pilot. Carrie, who has her degree in Public Health, works in the lab at our busy rural clinic. Our son, Isaac, was born in 2004 and our quintuplets, Will, David, Marcie, Seth, and Grace, were born in 2012.

Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. The you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all you heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight. -Proverbs 3:3-6

It's a good thing you're so stinkin' cute!

Krista, a colleague and friend from PNG who wrote this poem for us, has been a volunteer a couple of times the past few days. She knows that of which she speaks! (See "Thankful to be thankful" post from Friday.)

It’s a Good Thing...

At the end of the day
When you just want to play
And you think that this game is a hoot—
When you’re clean, dry and fed
But you won’t go to bed,
It’s a good thing you’re so stinking cute.

When I want you to dream
But you’d much rather scream
And the other four kids follow suit,
I must laugh or I’ll cry,
So I say with a sigh,
“It’s a good thing you’re so stinking cute.”

God has blessed me with you
And though life is a zoo,
You are truly my joy and delight.
But the day is complete
And I will not repeat,
“You are cute, and I love you. Goodnight!”

Such an innocent pose
When your eyes finally close
And a calmness begins to take root.
First I watch for a while
Then I say with a smile,
“It’s a good thing you’re so stinking cute!”

Krista with David and Marcie - wearing a mask trying to avoid THEIR germs, not protect them from hers!

Same two babies asleep:
Marcie found playing with her new toy from Tessa and Cora to be exhausting!

Even David eventually wears out from jumping

  7. Sweet poem that certainly addresses the quint situation! When I settle to go to sleep, very often you all are on my mind. I continue to petition God to "bless the mess!" It is amazing how much we can love the babies who also challenge us to keep from pulling our hair out, well, maybe not Gavin! :) Love to you all!

    1. Wish I could say we survived it fine, but alas we're not even in PNG yet. We have to wait until all 5 babies are cleared to return as PNG is definitely not equipped to handle preemie medical needs. Our clinic is probably one of the top three in the country, and it's just a local clinic. There are no hospitals equivalent to US hospitals. We have to fly to Australia for medical evacuations, things that our clinic can't deal with (surgeries, serious illnesses and injuries, etc.).
