This is the blog for Gavin and Carrie Jones and family. We live in Papua New Guinea and are working to see lives transformed by the living Word of God through Bible translation. Gavin is a helicopter pilot. Carrie, who has her degree in Public Health, works in the lab at our busy rural clinic. Our son, Isaac, was born in 2004 and our quintuplets, Will, David, Marcie, Seth, and Grace, were born in 2012.

Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. The you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all you heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight. -Proverbs 3:3-6

Good Morning, America!

We are supposed to be on Good Morning, America tomorrow morning, Friday, the 8th.  Another news crew came by this evening to interview us and video the babies.  We just pray the facts will be right and God will be glorified in it all.

Gavin

News Correction :}

Last night a news crew came and interviewed us, and yesterday we were in the Metro section of the Dallas Morning News, all to celebrate Seth's homecoming. We were so happy to share our joy and give  all the glory to God, the Maker and Sustainer of all things. However, apparently the story got around and was mis-written, saying that we had million dollar babies paid for by Medicaid. Needless to say, there were some pretty nasty, judgmental comments as a result. This is a portion of my response to the Daily Mail in the UK:

We DO have insurance for all of our children, Seth just burned through the maximum yearly amount ($750,000) since he was so sick [and that's even with the plan year renewing in October, so he really did cost the insurance company about a million bucks!]. At least our insurance got Seth very nearly out of the hospital! And we have paid into the Medicaid system. All of the other babies are still fully insured, as are my husband, our older son and myself.

I hope our interview tomorrow on Good Morning America is less controversial, but I realize this is God's business. I'm so grateful for the beautiful, healthy babies He's given us, I can never say so enough!

Grateful for YOU loving, encouraging, praying folks too!

Carrie's 2 cents

I wrote this days ago regarding abortion and the love of Christ, didn't have time to finish it before Gavin went to bed, and so didn't post it. I'm not trying to re-start any debate, I just have some concern for some women who might have read the original blog (I used to work at a crisis pregnancy center):

I would add fear as a main motivator for abortion. Gavin says he shouldn't have put "self righteous" in his sentence about abortions being done in the name of convenience [You'll note he's since then removed those words.]. We know there are many women who have found abortion anything but convenient, suffering from agonizing doubt beforehand and trauma and remorse afterward. And while we believe that Scripture teaches us "a person's a person no matter how small" (see Psalm 139), and a woman's rights can never overrule the rights of another life growing inside of her, I would also hasten to reassure anyone who has already aborted/selectively reduced a child that Jesus Christ will never turn away anyone who comes to Him (John 6:37).

John 6:28-29 says the only "good work" necessary and sufficient for our salvation is to believe in the One the Father has sent. Jesus came to take the punishment for ALL of our sins - and that includes gossip, jealousy, pettiness, abortions, murder, anything at all that falls short of God's glory.

It's like trying to leap across the Grand Canyon when it comes to trying to measure up to God's holiness and perfection on our own. The greatest Olympic long-jumper would way out-jump me, but he's still going to fall far short to his death. One person's good works might be much more evident than another's, but the most right acts of any of us are like filthy rags compared to God's righteousness (Isaiah 64:6).

For several years I felt like too much of a let-down in God's eyes to even come to Him, despite having accepted Christ's sacrifice as a four-year-old. I will always remember sitting on a couch in our apartment and working on memorizing these verses from Romans 8 when the truth of them struck me to the heart and caused me to sob with gratitude!:

1So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. 2And because you belong to him, the powera of the life-giving Spirit has freed youbfrom the power of sin that leads to death. 3The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature.c So God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins. 4He did this so that the just requirement of the law would be fully satisfied for us, who no longer follow our sinful nature but instead follow the Spirit.

Love and gratitude to you all for caring and sharing in so many, many ways,

Carrie

prayer requests

Hi all!

Thanks for your sweet comments, as always. :)

We would love to figure out what's going on with Seth's profuse vomiting. It does seem somewhat better since he was switched to an elemental formula, and MUCH better since we started venting his tube to let the air out, but he still heaves and loses everything several times a day. Please pray for wisdom for the medical staff. There is often some blood in it, too, as it's damaging to his tummy and esophagus to be vomiting like that. He's not on Prevacid yet, but that's the next step (tomorrow, perhaps).

A news crew is coming on Friday; associated with Children's Medical Center. We're not quite sure what's up, but we're happy to have our babies used as a testimony of God's love and provision of excellent medical care!

All of the babies are starting to nap on a semi-regular schedule, at least in the morning. Hooray! What bliss! And they are starting to go to bed earlier, like 9 or 10 p.m. I realize the parts I was most dreading about their babyhood are over; praise God for His grace in providing all we needed and even a lot of what we wanted (i.e. nights out!) during this time!

Another praise is that the reflux for the four healthier babies seems to be a LOT better. They are all taking at least some breast milk again and tolerating it well.

David is getting a helmet for his little misshapen head. That will be cute - pictures to follow!

Seth is just getting happier and happier and more and more relational. He is SUCH a delight! As are each of his siblings! They have all discovered their hands and how to suck on fists. I swear they would shove the whole thing in if they could. Will and David like to make "razzing" sounds with their lips and tongues. All the babies follow us around the room with their eyes and heads. All enjoy their little dangling toys on their play mat and know how to get the dangling rings on the bouncy seat jumping. They are also grasping and batting at toys. Seth entertained himself for a good half-hour yesterday, just batting the same toys over and over again. He's definitely got less neck strength, so I am eager to get his therapy started. He's doing well as far as sticking things in his mouth, but not so well as far as sucking and swallowing. Still makes him gag.

Wow, I had time to actually WRITE today!! ;)

Love and gratitude,
Carrie

Thank you!!

I am so very, very behind on personal thank you's and intended to make this into a postcard for that purpose. However, please accept this as a temporary replacement expression of gratitude for your kindness and amazing generosity in service, prayer, cards, emails, notes on our blog or Facebook, gifts to the babies, Isaac and us (including via our mission organization account), and every way in which you've given love and support. Our Heavenly Father has done than we could have asked or imagined, including through YOU! I hope you know who you are - we do!  We cherish each of you as God's provision during this time of abundance in babies and in blessings. :)

(I wish the babies had the patience to be photographed with every wonderful gift they've been sent!)
